Mike Lew: 2012 Events in Australia

The Next Step Counseling and Training is located in Brookline, Massachusetts. Co-directors Mike Lew, M.Ed. and Thom Harrigan, LICSW and their associates offer individual therapy, couples counseling, group therapy and clinical supervision as well as experiential workshops, professional trainings and public lectures. A primary focus of the work at The Next Step is adult male recovery from the effects of sexual child abuse and other trauma.

Events are still in the planning stages for Mike's return to Australia in 2012. At this time, most events have been scheduled, and a few are in the planning stages. Here are those events that are currently arranged. If details change, or other locations are added, they will be posted here. What Works To Engage Dads? (Forum)

“Better prepared, more engaged fathers” are a priority for action under the NSW Health Men’s Health Action Plan 2009-2012.

NSW Health, in partnership with the Men’s Health Information and Resource Centre at the University of Western Sydney and Relationships Australia, has organised this innovative “how-to” forum and encourages staff of family and children’s services to attend.

This exciting and interactive forum will showcase some of the best ideas on working with dads. It is a great opportunity to learn about and share what works!

Working with men affected by violence - training program

Sydney, March 21 2011, 9am - 4pm, Forum Room 1, Hyde Park Inn, 271 Elizabeth Street, Sydney. In Australia up to one in three victims of family violence are male but the needs of male victims remain largely unmet even though the issue of men affected by violence in intimate relationships has been reported for many years. This is Australia’s only training program for health, welfare and community workers that provides information and strategies for working with men who are affected by violence in their relationships.

Men's Anger Management (Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury)

Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury runs an 8 week Anger Management course for men. This program is for men (18 years and over) who are experiencing difficulties controlling their anger. Uncontrolled anger can lead to violent outbursts resulting in domestic violence, road rage, or loss of employment. The program helps men understand key issues about anger and control. The anger management classes are held for 8 consecutive sessions, once a week at our Gordon office. The next course commences Wed 23rd February 2011.

The Tasmanian Men’s Health and Wellbeing Association (Tasmen) and the Men’s Services Network Tasmania (MSNT), are looking forward to joining with you for an interesting and productive day to look at Men’s Health and Wellbeing in Tasmania. Health4Men: 2010 and Beyond seeks to expand on the priorities outlined in the National Male Health Policy launched in May 2010, to apply them to the Tasmanian context and outline ways of implementing action in response to these broad areas of the Male Health Policy.
